Assessment

“Out of your vulnerabilities will come your strength.” – Sigmund Freud

Psychological assessments allow for a comprehensive exploration of a client’s psychological profile. This may include examining mental health symptoms, personality features, emotional functioning, functional abilities, coping abilities, and contributing factors.

Psychological assessments are based on specific referral questions and are tailored to address specific concerns. Information can be gathered and integrated from a range of methods including a clinical interview, behavioural observation, the use of validated questionnaires and testing measures, review of relevant documentation, and discussion with other health care providers or professionals.

The results of a psychological assessment can be used to understand an individual’s cognitive, emotional, behavioural, and personality functioning, determine the presence or absence of a mental health disorder, provide professional recommendations, and guide treatment planning and next steps.

Mental Health Screening

If you are concerned that you may be experiencing psychological symptoms, an initial psychological screening may be helpful. This is used to assess current levels of anxiety, depression, stress, etc. and determine if further investigation is warranted.

Psychodiagnostic Assessment

A psycho-diagnostic assessment is used to determine if you meet diagnostic criteria for a mental health related disorder that may be impacting your ability to function within personal, social, academic, or occupational domains.

Psycho-diagnostic assessments are tailored to each client’s need and are based on referral questions. A psycho-diagnostic assessment may examine mental health, personality features, emotional functioning, executive functioning, functional abilities, coping abilities, and contributing factors. This assessment will include a detailed, written report with clinical recommendations to support treatment and daily functioning.

ADHD Assessment

An ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) assessment is used to determine the presence or absence of ADHD. It may help you understand your childhood and why certain struggles have been longstanding, understand why certain things have been so challenging such as planning, organization, staying focused, or time management, why your behaviours may look different from your friends or colleagues, or why you have struggled in school or at work.

This assessment will include a detailed, written report with clinical recommendations to support treatment and daily functioning.
